Call for Applications

PURPOSE. For the first time, EGOS is organizing pre-Colloquium paper development workshops. The Strategy as Practice Paper Development workshop is a new pre-Colloquium activity that aims to help scholars develop their papers in close interaction with leading researchers in the field. In addition to the Strategy as Practice sub-theme, therefore, this workshop offers an arena for scholars sharing an interest in the field of Strategy as Practice to develop their ideas towards publishable research articles. However, more than in the regular sub-theme, the focus will be on small group interaction and pragmatic issues related to publishing. The workshop is open to all scholars though preference will be given to PhD students and early career researchers.

Accepted papers will be briefly presented and thoroughly discussed in round tables sessions with leading scholars in the field. These scholars include Claus Jacobs, Paula Jarzabkowski, Ann Langley, Saku Mantere, Leif Melin, Patrick Regnér, Linda Rouleau, David Seidl, Eero Vaara and Richard Whittington.

The workshop takes place on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, between 9:00 and 15:00. The day will start with a short presentation on current topics and challenges in strategy-as-practice research followed by the presentation and discussion of the accepted papers. All participants are expected to have read the papers of their fellow session presenters and be ready to contribute to their discussion.

APPLICATION PROCESS. All scholars interested in developing their papers towards publishable articles are invited to apply. However, preference will be given to the PhD and early career scholars. To be considered as an early career scholar, the applicant needs to have completed her/his doctoral thesis within the last three years. Please submit (via the EGOS website) a single document (doc, docx or pdf file) of application that includes:

  1. On the first page: a short letter of application containing full details of name, address (postal address, phone, fax and email), affiliation (date of PhD completion for early career scholars), a statement of why the applicant considers it valuable to attend the workshop, as well as an indication of what journal(s) the paper is likely to be submitted to
  2. A full paper that you want to develop to a publishable stage

Applications must be submitted via the EGOS website. Submission period for applications:
Start: February 15, 2011
End: March 15, 2011, 23:59:59 CET

PLEASE NOTE. The same research paper cannot be submitted both to this pre-Colloquium paper development workshop and to the regular Strategy as Practice sub-theme (sub-theme 05). However, the SAP sub-theme convenors may suggest that papers submitted to them should be redirected from the sub-theme to the paper development workshop.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application to the workshop by the end of March, 2011. Given the interactive nature of the workshop, the number of participants will be limited. Hence, it is advisable to register for the workshop as early as possible.
Upon acceptance to the workshop, participants will be given the opportunity to update their paper by June 1, 2011 (fixed deadline) via the EGOS website.

Participants are encouraged to apply also to the other pre-Colloquium activities as well as to regular Colloquium program. Please see details on the Colloquium website at: www.egosnet.org

The final workshop registration must be completed separately to the paper submissions and registration (conference fee required) for the main EGOS Colloquium.
