Currency/ credit cards
The official currency in Canada is the Canadian Dollar. Coin denominations are 5, 10, 25 cents, 1 and 2 dollars (the 1 cent
coin has recently gone out of circulation), with banknotes of 5, 10, 20, 50 and $100. Use the daily currency converter to calculate the accurate exchange rate. Debit cards can be used to withdraw money from ATMs (between a $2 and $5 fee). Major
credit cards are accepted in hotels, shops and restaurants across Canada. It is advisable to carry an identity card or another
form of identification and to inform your bank or credit card company that you will use your card abroad.
Cashpoints/ banking
The nearest cashpoint (ATM) to the venue is at Côte-Ste-Catherine building (Louis-Colin entrance in the cafeteria/ atrium
on the Rez-de-Jardin level). Banks are open between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. Most banks open later on Thursdays.
Electricity
The electrical current in Canada operates at 110 volts (60 Hz), rather than 220 volts (50 Hz) as in Europe, and uses type
A (two-pins) and B (three-pins) plugs. Appliances designed to operate on 220 volts need a voltage converter (about 30 €) and/or a plug adapter (about 4 €) which you can usally buy at the airport, or retailers such as Canadian Tire, Rona or Réno Dépôt.
