EGOS Diversity and Anti-Harassment Policy*

The European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS) embraces the diversity of its community and is committed to providing a welcoming experience for everyone. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with our policy – all EGOS members and participants at our colloquia and workshops are expected to abide by it.

EGOS is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, nationality, age, religion, or disciplinary background. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. EGOS members and participants at our colloquia and workshops – including guest speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors – violating these rules may be sanctioned or removed from the event, without any refund, at the discretion of the local organizers and/or the EGOS Executive Board. In severe cases, EGOS members may lose their membership in the association.

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Verbal comments that express discrimination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, nationality, age, religion, or disciplinary background

  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following

  • Unwelcome photography or recording

  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events

  • Inappropriate physical contact

  • Unwelcome sexual attention

  • Abuse of power for personal advantage

  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior

Individuals asked to stop any such behavior experienced as harassment by another individual are expected to comply immediately, irrespective of the nature of the behavior or their intention. We expect all EGOS members and participants to abide by this code of conduct – at our annual colloquia and all workshops under the auspices of EGOS, on all venues, and also during related social activities. In addition, EGOS members are expected to act in accordance with the values expressed in this policy also beyond EGOS-related activities and events, and to look after each other. If an EGOS member or participant engages in harassing behavior, the EGOS Executive Board retains the right to take any actions to enforce our policy and keep EGOS a welcoming community for all.

If you are being harassed, or witness harassment of someone else, please contact any member of the EGOS Executive Board (or the local organizing team) immediately. You can get in touch with us directly or via a confidant, in person or via email. You can of course bring someone to support you.

Please be assured that we will handle your report absolutely confidentially and as respectfully as possible. You will not be asked to confront anyone in person. However, we cannot accept anonymous reports as we need to understand what happened and who was involved in any incident in order to take action. EGOS is prepared to help you contact hotel/venue security, local law enforcement, local support services, or otherwise assist you to feel safe.
