The EGOS Executive Board elections 2027 will take place online via the EGOS website from December 1 to 15, 2026.
What should elected candidates expect when joining the EGOS Executive Board?
The EGOS Board formally meets three times per year. In late January, we meet onsite for two days (Friday
and Saturday), but early starts and late ends, plus travelling to the host city mean that this takes close to four days. In
May/June, a virtual meeting takes place (almost all-day), and in early July, we meet onsite after (Saturday) the annual Colloquium,
meaning that the total time is close to a week. Factoring this in, the total workload is not more than three days per month,
although unevenly distributed.
EGOS Board members are in charge of specific tasks (current Allocation
of responsibilities) and organize their own work as they wish. Board members are not paid, and have to pay for their membership,
Colloquium attendance, and travel expenses just like any other EGOS member. Travel expenses for meetings outside the EGOS
Colloquium will be covered by EGOS upon request.
Please note that the EGOS Board is small; with only 7 members,
3 have to serve as Chair, Vice-Chair, and Treasurer. Candidates should thus be aware of the high probability of ending up
in one of those roles.
Joining the EGOS Board is a very rewarding experience. Beyond the pleasure of serving
the community, it is very interesting to learn the inner workings of such a big organization. The working atmosphere is pleasant
and always constructive; decisions are made collegially – the best evidence for this is that most Board members have participated
for two terms!
